Benelec Services is a licensed Melbourne electrical contractor (REC 30906) servicing homes, businesses and developers across Greater Melbourne. We started in 2020 as Benjamin O'Rourke Electrical Services and became Benelec Services Pty Ltd in 2023. Since then we've grown into a team of nine, all directly employed and full-time.
Our director, Ben O'Rourke, completed his apprenticeship in Warrnambool before spending two years working as an electrician in London, then returning to Victoria to specialise in commercial solar. That mix of regional, international and commercial experience shapes how we work today: high standards, practical problem-solving, and a straight answer about what a job needs.
What we do:
We cover the full range of residential and commercial electrical work, including switchboard upgrades, lighting, power, fault-finding, safety inspections and smoke alarms. We design and install solar PV, battery storage and EV chargers, and help households find more efficient ways to heat their homes and hot water. We also deliver new builds, renovations and commercial fit-outs, along with ongoing maintenance for strata, property managers and hospitality venues.
Solar is a major part of our work. In the last financial year we installed 8.5 MW of solar, and in 2026 we won the Solar Volume (kW) award at Energybuild's Supplier of the Year Awards for Victoria. We're SAA-accredited and Tesla Certified, so we can advise on the right system for your usage, not just the one that's easiest to sell.
Who we work with:
We're an approved contractor for McDonald's, maintaining 13 restaurants across Melbourne. Our hospitality work includes fit-outs and maintenance for The Irish Times, Coopers Brewery and venues across the Zengal hospitality group. We've also designed and installed a complete generator-supplied power and lighting system for Earthlok's off-grid industrial site at Avalon. For homeowners, we handle everything from a single faulty power point to full-house renovation packages.
How we work:
Every electrician and apprentice on your job is a Benelec employee. We don't use subcontractors or labour hire, so the people who turn up are trained, inducted and accountable to us. Our director is also a Certified Infrared Thermographer, which means we can use thermal imaging to find hidden switchboard and wiring faults before they become a problem.
Quotes are free and itemised. For many jobs we can quote from photos you send us; larger or more complex work may need a site visit first. Either way, no work starts until you've agreed the price, and any changes are discussed with you before we go ahead. Every job that requires one comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
We carry $20 million public liability insurance plus workers compensation, and we're proud to have earned 95 five-star Google reviews from customers across Melbourne.
A:.
A: Common signs include old ceramic fuses, no safety switches (RCDs), circuits that trip regularly, flickering lights, a burning smell or a board that feels warm. If you're adding solar, a battery, an EV charger or a new kitchen, your board may also need upgrading to handle the extra load safely. We'll inspect it and tell you honestly whether an upgrade is needed.
A: In most cases, yes. We'll check your existing inverter, panels and switchboard, then recommend a battery that suits your system and your household usage. As an SAA-accredited and Tesla Certified installer, we can advise on the options that make the most sense for your home.
A: Most home EV charger installs are completed in a single day. The time depends on the distance from your switchboard to the charger location and whether your board has capacity. We'll confirm this when we quote, so there are no surprises on the day.
A: Thermal imaging uses an infrared camera to show heat that isn't visible to the eye. Loose connections, overloaded circuits and failing components run hot before they fail, so a thermal scan can catch problems early. Our director is a Certified Infrared Thermographer and uses it for switchboard inspections and commercial maintenance.

A: Yes. We provide scheduled and reactive maintenance for commercial clients, including 13 McDonald's restaurants and a range of hospitality venues across Melbourne. We can tailor a maintenance program to your site, whether it's a single venue or a group of locations.
A: Yes. Every job that requires one comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety, issued under our Registered Electrical Contractor number (REC 30906). This is your proof the work has been tested and complies with Australian Standards.
A: A Benelec electrician. All our electricians and apprentices are directly employed, and we never use subcontractors or labour hire. Apprentices always work under the supervision of a licensed A-grade electrician.
